Network Security Specialist Intermediate - Location: Montgomery, AL - Clearance: Background Check


This position will work on site as a Network Security Specialist with the Law Enforcement Agency for the State of Alabama located in Montgomery, Alabama. This is considered intermediate position.

The Network Security Engineer will work with various state, local customers to implement network security solutions primarily focused on NetFlow Analysis and Security Monitoring (Lancope, SIEM) and policy enforcement solutions (Cisco, FW, IDS/IPS, NAC, 802.1x, VPN). The individual will consult with customers while working as part of a delivery team and/or individually as the delivery lead. The individual will provide customers and team with technical and best practice guidance, hands-on configuration, deployment support, product training, and project management support as directed. The position calls for an individual who understands business operations, information technology and security. The successful candidate must have demonstrated leadership specific to technical information security issues as well as an understanding of business processes and regulations. High level communication skills are essential to successfully translate technology and security requirements into business terms.

Specific Work/Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, design, implement, audit, optimize and troubleshoot network security solutions and products for a state of the art criminal justice information systems (CJIS) compliant network
  2. Provide reliable, available, scalable, and secure critical data and voice services to first responder law enforcement officers, staff, and the public
  3. Provide subject matter expertise, consulting and knowledge transfer around specific technologies, solutions and products
  4. Engineer and implement solutions on a wide variety of data network and data security elements
  5. Provide on-site and remote support of network security, analysis and monitoring solutions, services and products
  6. Build and maintain customer relationships and work efficiently with customer support team to solve customer issues
  7. Lead internal and customer facing meetings both via telephone and/or in-person as directed
  8. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed


Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years building and maintaining security monitoring systems
  • Hands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, endpoint protection, authentication systems, log management and content filtering
  • Knowledge of network protocols, data flows, and vulnerabilities within a TCP/IP environment
  • Experience with performing vulnerability scans and assessments as well as computer forensics
  • Familiarity with SOA governance and policy management best practices, information security best practices and common processes
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts



  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with advance education in fields related to position or equivalent experience
  2. At least one IT certification, all desired, from the following list:
    1. CCNP
    2. f5-CA
    3. ICSSP
    4. Security+
    5. GIAC
    6. Others may be acceptable if equivalent or senior to these


Special Requirements:

  1. We would like to on-board the potential candidate as quickly as possible, with two to three weeks
  2. All local prospects will do an in-person interviews
  3. Out station prospects can be done through Skype; in person is preferred
  4. Final interview will be in person (The agency will not pay for or reimburse for any travel)
  5. The agency will not pay for or reimburse any relocation costs
  6. The augmented staff will work regular working hours as other Agency personnel or as defined in writing by the Agency Project Sponsor. Agency personnel regular working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday including a one-hour lunch break
  7. The augmented staff may be required to work after hours, weekends or state holidays and the total number of work hours in a week shall not exceed 40 (forty)
