You can’t escape the cloud discussion. It follows you around every day. You look in the sky and there they are – clouds. Your CIO is talking it up with the users and the IT staff. The cloud vendors make promises. The dream of squeezing a huge architecture or small application into a data center in another state for pennies is harassing you daily.

SHAREPOINT 2010 AND 2013 CONTENT DATABASES

When creating a web application you can specify the database you want the web application to use and all is well. Then, when creating a site collection within that web application you are no longer allowed to pick a database. By default, the site collection will use the same databases that are available for the parent web application. At this point I started asking myself some questions, what happens if your web application has multiple content databases associated with it? How do you know which database your site collection is being stored into?

ENABLING ANONYMOUS SHAREPOINT 2013 REST SEARCH BY ENTERING ONE URL IN POWERSHELL

Recently we have needed to configure Anonymous Search for SharePoint 2013 via the REST API. The esoteric alchemical formulae that are required to make this work are documented wonderfully by Waldek Mastykarz and can be found here:
The punch line of Waldek's article is that you must create a very particularly named library, with an exactly named XML file, with just the right contents in the root site of your site collection. If you have not done so you will get the following error message. TheSafeQueryPropertiesTemplateUrl “The SafeQueryPropertiesTemplateUrl "{0}" is not a valid URL.” is not a valid URL. Overcoming the issue is easy enough, particularly if you have the blog post above, but it is tedious if you must repeat the process over and over and over again.
