Service Pack 1 for SharePoint 2013 is Back!

For those of you who did not get a chance to implement SP1 for SharePoint 2013, it is back! Microsoft released their newest update for SP1 on April 22nd.  The newest service pack allows users to implement SharePoint Server 2013 with Windows Server 2012 R2.  With this service pack it is now possible to utilize the latest Microsoft products, allowing your company to stay as up to date as possible.

Other features included in SP1 are:

  • IE 11 compatibility improvements.
  • SharePoint on-premises users are able to connect to OneDrive in the cloud.
  • Supports OData JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Light with less verbose communication from the SharePoint server to apps.
  • Provides developers the ability to select the level of metadata they want in the response from JSON light OData v3 requests.
  • Gives a new setting to site admins to turn off the social newsfeed while adding a link to Yammer.

The information for this update can be found at the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880552

Our typical recommendation is to wait 90 days before implementing any service pack.  This is just a precaution to make sure any bugs or recalls that may occur do not affect your SharePoint farm. If you are interested in using Windows Server 2012 R2, installation of this service pack is required for SharePoint Server 2013.  Be sure to consider all your options and go forth and conquer!
