What is the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)?
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification, or CMMC, is the next stage in the Department of Defense’s (DoD) efforts to properly secure the Defense Industrial Base (DIB). In the simplest of terms, the DoD announced in mid 2019 that it is creating a cybersecurity assessment model and certification program. Since that time, several draft versions of CMMC were publicly released: 0.40.6, and 0.7    CMMC 1.0 is now available.

CMMC 1.0 Overview for DoD Suppliers
A press briefing was provided the morning of January 31st 2020 by DoD officials and members of OUSD: Kevin Fahey (ASD(A)), Katie Arrington, and Ellen Lord (USD(A&S)). Later in the afternoon CMMC 1.0 was released with slides from the morning’s presentation and a separate set of apendices .
Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) 0.7 Released
Major cuts were made to CMMC Levels 4 and 5, but slight adjustments were made across the board. As promised previously by the CMMC team, a “Discussion and Clarification” was provided for Levels 2 and 3 in the Appendix similar to Level 1 provided in 0.6. Below is a key excerpt on timeline from latest release of CMMC (0.7).
